So......I've changed my strategy on the buy nothing thing.....just a bit.
In decided that instead of limiting myself to buying absolutely nothing, that I would give myself a $250/month 'food and everything else' budget. This came about, at least in part, because of my dedication to my book club. I thought I'd be able to get around having to purchase books by going to the library but this month that was thwarted due to the fact that I was 27th on the waiting list and the book is 933 pages. Before you judge me.....I got the book on sale. It was only $15.95(reg. $19.95!) plus I got a free book of short stories by Etgar Karet as a bonus. I think I'll be able to recoup my spending quite a bit by taking the book to the local used book store for trade when I'm done too. So all in all, I didn't really spend that much.
In the end too, I've decided I can be a bit more free by dipping into my food budget. If I have to eat brown rice and zucchini for a week because I decided to go out for a burger and a shake at the Templeton, then so be it. Dammit.

Great Lake Swimmers

So...the show was last night. It was excellent. The boys in the band are funny and sweet. Actually, I almost got on the damn ferry today and went to see their show in Victoria. Then I thought about how stalker-ish that was and decided not to.
I mean, good grief....I saw them perform twice yesterday. Sheesh.

cucumbers
I just got a new shower gel based solely on it's ridiculous name.....Cucumber Song.
I just googled "Cucumber Song" and found that there is actually a couple of songs called "The Cucumber Song".
These are the lyrics to one of them:
"I'm a cucumber
I'm a cucumber
I'm a cucumber
I'm a cucumber
I'm a cucumber
I'm a cucumber
...please don't send me to the mental farm!" - Dave Jameson
A more bawdy Cucumber Song can be found here.....and a cartoon, here.
Okay, obviously not spending money has left me with too much time on my hands.

I'm feeling much, much, much better now.I get quite a few concert tickets through work. They're not always for shows I am super excited about. However, I AM looking forward to the Great Lake Swimmers show on Thursday. I've been a fan of their's for a few years now and their new album, Ongiara, is excellent.
As an aside, I was hanging out with someone last night, he was showing me his new, beautiful recording studio, loft space and he happened to mention that he got his bar fridge for free. He said that he'd simply called up a major soft drink manufacturer and said that he needed one for his professional studio and they sent him one.....for nothing!
This has inspired me. I am going to be more creative in my quest for entertainment. I figure that one can't get things if one does not ask for them. It's not that it really needs to be free either. I am willing to work for stuff. I had, up until now, only considered offering my time to organizations and events which had an already established volunteer contingent. Now, the sky is the limit.
Look at me go!
